National Football Conference: The NFC consists of 16 teams that are organized into 4 even divisions. It was created as part of the 1970 merger of the NFL with the rival American Football League. The current NFC champions are the San Fransisco 49ers.
American Football League: The AFL was a major professional American football league that operated for ten seasons from 1960 until 1969, when it merged with the older National Football League. The AFL began with 8 teams split into two divisions, the Eastern and the Western.
The Houston Oilers: The professional football team now know as the Tennessee Titans previously played in Houston, Texas as the Houston Oilers. The team was founded in 1960 and was under the Oiler name until 1996 when it relocated to Memphis, and later Nashville.
