Wikipedia Trail: From the National Football League to The Houston Oilers

National Football League: I started here because I love watching the NFL. It is a professional football league that consists of 32 teams, divided equally between the National Football Conference and the American Football Conference. It is one of the four major sports leagues in the United States and is the highest professional level of American football in the world.

National Football Conference:  The NFC consists of 16 teams that are organized into 4 even divisions. It was created as part of the 1970 merger of the NFL with the rival American Football League. The current NFC champions are the San Fransisco 49ers.

American Football League: The AFL was a major professional American football league that operated for ten seasons from 1960 until 1969, when it merged with the older National Football League. The AFL began with 8 teams split into two divisions, the Eastern and the Western.

The Houston Oilers: The professional football team now know as the Tennessee Titans previously played in Houston, Texas as the Houston Oilers. The team was founded in 1960 and was under the Oiler name until 1996 when it relocated to Memphis, and later Nashville.

Tech Tip: One Drive

One drive is a powerful tool that makes working on documents anywhere or sharing them with people incredibly easy. You can use this through Microsoft Office online. Your documents are saved in this drive and you can access them from any device using your login. You also have the ability to share these documents with people. You can share it read-only or, if you are working on something with a partner or group, you can share editing access which will allow multiple people to work on the same document at the same time with live updates across all access points. You can use any Microsoft Office product here as well. This includes Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and others.

Saraswati's Secret

Imagination can expand or contract the mind. The Sarasvati has dried up according to experts but people don't know what this means. It can be taken literally or symbolically. Saraswati is a well- defined goddess. Her stories are rare but always relate to language. The devas invoke her just when the demon Kumbhakarna is about to ask Brahma for a boon. In this, Saraswati is the first creation of Brahma and even the first woman created by Brahma and he becomes infatuated with her. This 'incestuous' affection is frowned upon and Rudra-Shiva keeps Brahma from pursuing her. Again, this can be viewed literally or symbolically. Brahma's creation is a mirror that reflects his own personality.

Reading Week 14: Seven Secrets of the Goddess Part D

Durga's Secret

Everyone lives on the edge of fear. Offerings to the Shiva and Vishnu include food, flowers, leaves, and insects. This its to invoke god who is otherwise dormant. Offerings to Devi are different. There is something more. Turmeric, red powder, kohl, and pieces of cloth. The cloth is so that she is less Kahli and more Gauri. This is to awake the mind and domesticate nature. Only invoking the mind without domesticating nature is the trait of Shiva, the withdrawn hermit. Only domesticating nature is the trait of Brahma who manifests as Daksha, the controlling priest. This tension between the mind and nature is important. Durga is the preferred form of the goddess. Riding her lion defying domestication. Unbound hair shows she is wild but her nose ring shows she is domesticated. The weapons in her hands show a different kind of violence. One that is restrained and offers protection but can dish out punishment. She is Brahma's defiant daughter, Vishnu's protected and protective sister, and Shiva's affectionate wife. Her affection cannot be taken for granted. She will not be exploited. Domestication of the goddess, nature, must be mirrored with the awakening of god, mind.
