Topic Research: Davy Crockett

Patched Moccasin: This is a tale about Davy Crockett investigating the raid of a building that at first glance looks like an Indian attack. Davy, always looking for justice, does not believe that it was the near by Indians because he just declared peace with their chief. He investigates the crime scene and then goes to meet with the Indians to see what information they can provide him in order to catch the real culprit.

Blood Brothers: This is a story of Davy Crockett saving an Indian from one of his traps in the forest and taking him back to his house to bandage his wounds. The Indian sneaks off in the middle of the night. A year later, Davy attempts to rescue a girl who was captured by a tribe of Indians but gets caught instead. They are both tied up but are then saved when the Indian that Davy rescued turns out to be there and helps them escape.

Indian Attack: In this story, a man comes to Davy's house in the middle of winter during a blizzard telling him that General Andrew Jackson needs his help. Davy traverses the cold terrain and terrible weather to get there and help General Jackson scout out the attacking Indians and defeat them in battle.

I used the comics found on an internet archive search to learn about these stories. I read comic 001 and 003.

Semester Project Topic Brainstorm

The first topic that I am interested in is Davy Crockett. This topic was under folk heroes of legend. I have always loved the topic of Davy Crockett and even did a report on him in elementary school where I dressed up as him. He was a legend to me at the time which makes him perfect for a legend for me to write a story about. The stories made about the real life man turned into mythical tales, making him larger than life over a hundred years after his death. I know a lot about the general life of Davy Crockett but would like to dive deeper into his time in Texas leading up to the Battle of the Alamo. I would like to tell stories about his storied adventures including the Alamo and would like to tell these from a first person point of view.

This miniseries could be interesting and provide inspiration and information for this story.

I am also interested in writing about is the Greek god Ares. I was interested in Greek gods in middle school and high school from reading books (Percy Jackson series) and movies such as Attack of the Titans, Wrath of the Titans, and Immortals. I know a lot about this culture but would like to dive deeper into the god of war. I want to know more stories of him as the main character and would like tell variations of these from a third person point of view.

This website looks like it would provide a lot of information about Ares.

Another topic that is intriguing to me is Gods and Goddesses of Japan. I know next to nothing about this topic, but, being Japanese, the Japanese culture has always been something that I want to learn more about. I would like to write about the whole mythology of these Gods and Goddesses in story form.

A book was posted with this topic that I believe would provide a lot of information.

The last topic that I am interested in is ghost of OU. I have never heard any stories about ghosts at OU so, as a student, I would like to learn more about these stories and find out what places on campus are supposedly haunted and maybe check them out myself. I would tell these stories from the point of view of a student at the university.

Here is a book that tells several stories about ghosts at OU.
