Wikipedia Trail: From Coronavirus to the SARS Outbreak

For this Wikipedia Trail I decided to read about Coronavirus as it is obviously impacting the world today.

Article 1: Coronaviruses are actually a group of viruses that, in humans, lead to respiratory tract infections. The severity and lethality of this virus can carry from mild to extremely lethal. These viruses were first discovered in the 1930s in chickens.

Article 2: Avian coronavirus is that which infects birds. This leads to avian infectious bronchitis that is highly infectious among birds. This impacts meat-producing and egg-producing chickens and has caused a large economic impact in the poultry industry in the past.

Article 3: Severe acute respiratory syndrome-related coronavirus (SARS-CoV) is a type of coronavirus that infects humans, bats, and some other mammals. This was the cause of the 2002-2004 outbreak of SARS. There are hundreds of different strands of this virus but they are all known to only infect non-human species.

Article 4: The 2002-2004 outbreak of Sars was an epidemic which was caused by SARS-CoV. Like today's Covid-19 outbreak, it began in China. This was in November 2002 in Foshan, Guangdong. Unlike today's pandemic, there were 8,000 people infected in 29 different countries and 774 death worldwide. While this was an epidemic at the time, the numbers pale in comparison to today's pandemic.
