Reading Week 14: Seven Secrets of the Goddess Part E

Lakshmi's Secret

Wealth can liberate. The living seek food, the lifeless and dead don't. This makes food the fundamental target of life. Lakshmi is food in nature and wealth in culture. Lakshmi is called Kamala or lotus. This is because just as the fragrance, color and nectar attract bees, food attracts all living creatures. Food never goes to anyone; everyone comes to food. Lakshmi creates the food chain and the pecking order. There is a hierarchy based on strength. The alpha is the strongest and gets the most food and mates. The omega is the weakest, gets the least food, and fewest mates. Only the fittest survive so that the next generation is stronger than the last. The lion is the alpha but even he won't attack the elephant due to its size. The elephant has no natural predator and is most closely associated with Lakshmi. Also because both are closely associated with water. A pair of elephants are often shown with Lakshmi spraying her with water from their trunks. In drought, the one animal that knows where water is is the matriarch of the herd. White elephants are special. There is a fear that wealth can corrupt nature and culture but all wealth exists below the earth, for it is below the earth that seeds sprout, metal is created, and water is hidden. To pull this wealth out we need the sun, fire, wind, and rain. Therefore the devas are needed and become gods as they favor humanity.
