Reading Week 13: Seven Secrets of the Goddess Part A

Gaia's Secret

Gaia is the earth mother in greek mythology. The only way her son, Chronos could leave her womb was by castrating his father. Chronos declared himself king and eats his own children to prevent them from taking power. One son is saved, Zeus. He kills Chronos and takes power.

Sedna and her father are attacked by birds and to save himself, her father casts her overboard and cuts off her fingers and limbs as she tries to come back on board.

Adya cursed Brahma that there would be no temples in his honor. She found Vishnu too shifty and shrewd so she turned to the stern Shiva to be her lover. He agreed as long as she gave him her third eye. She did this and he used it to turn her to ash. From the ash came three goddesses who became the three gods wives.

We see the relation to nature in that the males have to compete for the females. This is the meaning of each womb is precious but not each sperm. Therefore the males must compete. Over time we have seen a shift from this.

We can see similarities between the different cultures and religions that tell the same stories and worship similar deities but with different methods. Similar themes, different tales.
